The Studio at White Lotus is now offering a drop-in class in Amrit Method Yoga Nidra, which translates to "sleep of the yogi." This guided sleep-based meditation practice progressively moves through brainwave states, allowing for the effortless disengagement of the thinking mind. Each class will utilize intentional breath and directed thought, as facilitated by Niki Jones, to allow the body and mind to engage in a deep state of self-healing and restoration. Yoga Nidra can be beneficial to overall health in the following ways: increases and improves sleep to be more restful; calms the nervous system balancing stress; lowers blood pressure and cholesterol; slows aging process; increases body's natural production of serotonin, melatonin, GABA, oxytocin, endorphins, dopamine, DHEA, and human growth hormone. Yoga Nidra can be especially effective for those who suffer from stress, insomnia, and burnout; habits and addiction; inflammatory conditions; depression and anxiety; trauma and PTSD; and Type II diabetes. It can also help change the relationship with pain in those who suffer from chronic pain.
